I have this idea and based on the issues, or irritation at the limits of equipment, I don't like the video I took much. Also lacking in photos or anything from the store or of Chaz I think my plan b is best.

I shot Joel on top of his apartment in downtown, which is awesome in every way possible. The view is cool, the skyline was centered behind him, but due to the lack of filters and the camera getting both him and the cityscape to be visible was an impossible feat. I am irritated by this. The audio is acceptable.

The interview with Lloyd went down in the back of the store, also cool but not visually appealing. They had music and stuff going on in the main part of the store so I wanted to move off the main stage to complete the shooting with him. Again good enough audio but I don't like the visuals.

If I shoot and edit all new visual to have audio tracks of the interview play over then this beast works. That seems the best answer in my book, now just selling it to the group.

Idea

I just had a stroke of either insanity or brilliance this morning and I'm not sure if it is just a lack of sleep making thought processes misfire. I am toying with scraping most of the video, shooting something to completely fill the void this creates and using the interview audio. I was thinking of how to get around both the talking head and just create a visual narrative to add the piece, maybe this is a little out there. I am feeling a tad overwhelmed with everything going on between school projects, work and my life. I haven't gotten in touch with the main sources I wanted to talk with about Chaz and Discount Paperback. I did discover he died back in February, which totally sucks. After some searching I found the obituary and his final resting places location, Glen Rest Memorial Estates. This just happens to be the same place all of my family is at. I really don't like going out there, I haven't made it out in two years since my Grandmother passed away. I think I'm going to have to make a journey to the graves her soon.
I'm just never in the mood to face the mortality my family, this sounds stupid even saying it. I know this is one of the sufferings in life and yet it is the hardest one to accept for whatever reason. Yet any month other than May I think I would be better off, turning 29 and already out living my uncle is a step in the right direction.

I don't know.

I think I had hoped in the back of my head that somehow Chaz survived the unsurvivable, maybe a man who deals in comics and fantasy could find a fantastic way to push beyond the Cancer. The best superheros aren't impervious though.

Thinking

It's been a chunk of time since my last visit and I don't have much more going on than before with the project. I was running through the potential imagery as I walked to my car and found myself getting lost in this vortex of plausible sources. My kids being born. The sun setting on the Pacific Ocean when I was eleven. My wife when we started being more than just friends. I tossed about ideas in my head, running through 29 years of source material for the perfect moment. I live visually, more than just seeing, I have enjoyed the use of a camera since I was five years old. I write comic books seeing the images before they come to life with someones ink and lead. I have moments daily which seem overtly cinematic on levels which might just border on dementia or some form of psychosis. This is what I have been doing since I can remember, so I need to just narrow the spectrum.

I was walking along the new construction of the Ohio Union and I was thinking of the collection of slides from my father. I don't really remember the slides as much as the production of my sister and I setting up the equipment to scan through them. But this nostalgic moment being excellent and all does nothing to represent a recent era of myself. I thought of my kids again while coming to a cross walk, I was so into my own thoughts I stopped for a turning car even though I had a walk sign. A wake up call.

Maybe some movie that has inspired me would be good subject work. The camera work and beauty during the forest scenes of Rashomon. The logo of Star Wars blaring onto the screen defiantly ignoring the standards for credits in Hollywood. This is not the path I wish to stray. Perhaps I could just draw from a hat.
